what is it about 3rd generation's dick that makes you want to suck it so hard
Soundtrack. The soundtrack and the soundfonts are very upbeat compared to Gen 2’s subtle and quieter themes, and had more entertaining arrangement than Gen 1’s march-esque arrangement.
Town design. It always felt cool to go to a new place. Rustboro was a city with a corporation, Dewford was an island, Slateport was a port town, Mauville was a smaller town with a failed public works project, Fortree was made of treehouses, etc. Also, they all looked like they fit their theme rather than plugging in the same house asset and useless NPC chatter.
Design of Hoenn. Gen 1 was good in this regard because you had Saffron City, which you had been dodging for most of the game, and 4 of the cities connected to it. It made traveling fun and less of an endeavor later on in the game. Gen 3 revisits this, by having different paths connect, rather than the latest three gens that have just been straight line simulators. They also make the game more intriguing by hiding certain important points visibly in the background early on, like the Abandoned Ship, or New Mauville, which you can access with your Surf later on. It also has the most entertaining landscapes, like the desert, Mt. Pyre, or Sootopolis. Not to mention, the two mountains in the game don’t just have boring brown tunnel designs, one’s red-hot and the other is yellow (for some reason). The dive ability was also cool, although seldom useful.
Contests. Contests were fun. Going to each place and doing a contest in each was fun. Later games boiled down the concept and it sucked.
The game had difficult puzzles, compared to Gen II which was just “go here, okay now go here, talk to a guy, go back, now go here.” This includes The Trick Master, which was always a fun incentive for beating a gym.
Those are the main points. I could go on and on about smaller details.
